Gary’s Recommendations

These are resources, products, and services I personally use, trust, or believe can genuinely help people over 60 live a happier, healthier, and more financially secure life. I only recommend resources I would confidently suggest to my own friends and family.

Before I recommend anything, I ask one question: “Would I recommend this to one of my neighbors or a close friend?” If the answer isn’t yes, it doesn’t make this page.

My Promise to My Readers

I don’t recommend products because they pay a commission. I recommend products that I have personally tested and would feel comfortable recommending to my own family. If I run into problems, I’ll work to solve them first. If I can’t honestly recommend the product, I’ll look for a better alternative. My goal is simple: take the frustration away !

Aura — My Experience So Far

I recently signed up for Aura because I wanted better protection for my wife and me against identity theft, scams, financial fraud, and the growing number of online threats facing older adults.

Rather than recommend a security product simply because it has an affiliate program, I decided to use Aura myself first.

So far, I’ve spent considerable time setting up and testing its different features.

What I Like So Far

Aura brings several types of protection together in one place. I’ve set up credit and identity monitoring, bank and credit card monitoring, data broker removal, scam call protection, and online security.

One feature that particularly impressed me was Data Broker Removal. Aura found numerous companies that collect and sell personal information and began submitting removal requests on my behalf. I can actually see which requests have been completed and which are still in progress.

I’ve also installed Aura’s browser protection in Microsoft Edge to help identify potentially dangerous websites.

I’m setting up my wife’s protection as well, which is giving me a chance to see how well Aura works for a couple rather than just one person.

What I Don’t Like

The biggest drawback so far is the setup.

Aura offers a lot of protection, but getting everything configured hasn’t always been as simple as I expected. Some features have required several steps, and I’ve encountered a few confusing screens.

I’ve also run into a problem with financial monitoring. Five of my credit cards are listed in Aura, but when I try to activate monitoring, Aura gives me an error. Interestingly, a newly added credit card on my wife’s account activated successfully. I’m going to see how Aura resolves this before reaching a conclusion.

I contacted Aura customer service and spoke with a live representative. She was helpful, although she couldn’t determine the cause of the problem. She submitted a ticket to Aura’s technical support team, which can investigate the issue more closely, and I was told to expect a response within 24–48 hours.

My Opinion So Far

My experience with Aura is positive overall. I especially like having identity, credit, financial, privacy, scam-call, and online protection available in one service.

However, ease of use matters to me—especially when recommending technology to people over 60. Aura has many useful features, but the setup could be easier.

I’m still testing Aura, so I’m not ready to give it my final recommendation yet. I’ll continue updating this page as I use the service and learn what works well—and what doesn’t.

Gary’s Thoughts

One reason I created Reinvent After 60 is to share what I actually learn from using products rather than simply telling readers what companies claim they can do.

At 79, I don’t want technology that creates more frustration than it solves. I want something that works, protects my family, and is understandable enough that I would feel comfortable recommending it to someone my age.

That’s the standard I’m using to evaluate Aura.
